The volunteer training that was scheduled for Wednesday, March 24 from 6-7:30pm has been canceled. We hope to reschedule the training soon, and please contact Sarah Lewis at email@example.com if you have any questions. Thank you!
We will be hosting a volunteer training for anyone who is interested in joining the Omaha Operation Frontline Team. Please look under “Trainings and Events” for more information. We hope to see you there!
Also, a very special THANK YOU to Chef Betty Deepe, Chef Rebecca Coatney and her daughter, Kennedy for helping Operation Frontline with their first official appearance at the VNA Art & Soup event on Sunday, February 21st. Our White Bean Basil Chicken Chili was a big hit and was very well received by participants! It was a wonderful event, and a generous amount of funds were raised for the VNA Shelter Nursing Program. Thank you to all who came out to support Operation Frontline, local restaurants and the VNA- we are already looking forward to next year!
It’s hard to believe that 1 in 10 Americans are currently using food stamps, or is it? Maybe you know someone who is relying on food assistance programs, someone who is worried about where their next meal is coming from, or perhaps that person is you. At this time it is imperative to educate ourselves on food insecurity and how it is affecting our lives. In order to raise awareness about hunger, poverty and food insecurity In America we will be posting articles related to these issues on our blog and twitter account. Please feel free to comment on them and add to the conversation. Here’s to hoping for a better tomorrow and a less hungry America!

First of all, thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers for making 2009 a great success! We reached over 500 children and families through 53 series of classes, and graduated 90% of our participants, which of course we could not have done without the support of our generous volunteers. Everyone dedicated their time to truly make a difference in our participants lives.
We would also like to thank our partner’s for their support as well! They include ConAgra Foods Foundation, Douglas County Extension Office, Omaha Food Bank, Sedexco, ServeNebraska and the Middle School Learning Center Initiative. We are looking forward to another successful year!
Operation Frontline of Omaha was also very pleased to be apart of the Downtown Farmer’s Market last summer where we conducted food demonstrations that showed people how to cook with local, fresh produce on a budget. We visited the market 3 times, reaching over 3,000 people! At our last visit we hosted the Omaha Great American Bake Sale on October 10. Although it was a very cold and snowy morning, we braved it out to raise over $300 for Share Our Strength. Thank you to all of our donors who supplied baked goods for our bake sale!
We also visited the Gifford Community Garden on August 22 to show the children and families in the neighborhood how to make a Turkey Veggie Wrap using fresh produce. The Omaha Food Bank joined us as well with their Fresh Truck and handed-out fresh fruit. It was a great turn-out and a beautiful summer day!
All in all it was a great year. We learned a lot and gained many valuable experiences not to mention we had a blast in the all the classes and learned a few new tricks from our chefs! We hope our volunteer and participants feel the same way, and please know our door is always open. We look forward to working with you all again in 2010!
